Baptism

Baptism Class

July 22nd, 2018

Ever wondered why baptism is so important? Or been curious why different churches baptize in different ways? Have you considered getting baptized yourself, but have never taken the step? Then Baptism Class is for you.

We'll answer questions like, "What does baptism mean?" and "who should be baptized?" and "why does Christ Community baptize the way they do?" Attending the class does not obligate you to go through with baptism. It's simply a time to learn what it's all about it.

Women's Book Club: Imperfect Disciple

July 22nd, 2018

$0

Looking for summer reading? Read at the pool or the beach and then join us for coffee, community, and conversation at our monthly book club. We will meet three times this summer at Waterbean Coffee in Cornelius to discuss that month's book. You have the option to purchase the book when you register or to purchase it on your own.

This month's book is The Imperfect Disciple by Jared Wilson. Read the description from the publisher:

Too many discipleship books are written for clean, perfect people who know all the right Sunday school answers. The Imperfect Disciple is for the rest of us--people who screw up, people who are weary, people who are wondering if it's safe to say what they're really thinking.

For the believer who is tired of quasi-spiritual lifehacks being passed off as true, down-and-dirty discipleship, here is a discipleship book that isn't afraid to be honest about the mess we call real life. With incisive wit, warm humor, and moving stories, Jared Wilson shows readers how the gospel works in them and in their lives when

  • they can't get their act together
  • they think God is giving them the silent treatment
  • they think church would be better without all the people
  • they're not happy with the person in the mirror
  • and much more

Wilson frees readers from the self-doubt and even the misplaced self-confidence they may feel as they walk with Jesus down the often difficult road of life. The result is a faith that weathers storms, lifts burdens, and goes forth to make more imperfect disciples.

Restless book

Restless Bible Study for Women (w/ Tambra Molloy & Stacy Smiley) Monday Evenings @ 6:30pm

July 23rd - August 20th, 2018

$0 - $15

Jennie Allen explores the important question: "Do I matter?" And she asks, "We live with lots of things, lots of people, but do we live for something?" It is possible to waste our lives. We don't want to live life feeling empty, numb, or bored. So God stirs a restlessness in our being that won't go away.

Using the story of Joseph, Jennie explains how his suffering, gifts, story, and relationships fit into the greater story of God—and how your story can do the same. She also introduces Threads—a tool to help you see your own personal story and to uncover and understand the raw materials God has given you to use for His glory and purpose. (8 sessions)

You may choose to reserve your book and pay now or you may purchase your book on your own.

Women's Book Club: None Like Him

August 19th, 2018

We will meet three times this summer at Waterbean Coffee in Cornelius to discuss that month's book. You have the option to purchase the book when you register or to purchase it on your own.

This month's book is None Like Him by Jen Wilkin. Read the book's description from the publisher:

God is self-existent, self-sufficient, eternal, immutable, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, sovereign, infinite, and incomprehensible.

We're not.

And that's a good thing.

Our limitations are by design. We were never meant to be God. But at the root of every sin is our rebellious desire to possess attributes that belong to God alone. Calling us to embrace our limits as a means of glorifying God's limitless power, Jen Wilkin invites us to celebrate the freedom that comes when we rest in letting God be God.
